Hasbro’s Record-Breaking Earnings from Baldur’s Gate 3

According to Hasbro’s latest investor call, the company has generated approximately $90 million from the licensing deal for Baldur’s Gate 3. The game, developed by Larian Studios, was first launched in August 2023 and has been a massive success.

Financial Performance

The call revealed that Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming Segment experienced a “10% revenue increase” in the full year of 2023. In Q4 specifically, the segment saw a 7% growth rate. The revenue surge was primarily driven by Baldur’s Gate 3 and Monopoly Go from Scopely.

Baldur’s Gate 3: A Game of Massive Success and Challenges

Upon its launch in August 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3 received critical acclaim for its Dungeons & Dragons authenticity, compelling characters, and freedom. Despite the game’s success, it faced a few significant challenges, such as bugs. One major issue was a save state bug that affected the Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 when it was released in December 2023. Both Larian Studios and Microsoft eventually resolved the problem, but not before issuing in-game warnings to players.

Future Plans for Baldur’s Gate 3

Writing director Smith from Larian Studios mentioned in December that “we do plan to do more updates, we’re not done yet.” The game continues to be a major earner for Hasbro, so further investment in licensing deals similar to Baldur’s Gate 3 is likely.

Hasbro’s Transformation and Innovation Pipeline

In the financial call, Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks stated that “we are taking the necessary actions to transform Hasbro.” The company is also building momentum in its innovation pipeline between now and 2025. For more gaming news, read about French Ubisoft workers seeking better salaries today.
