Exclusive Update on the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake: Development Began in September 2023
Last year, we reported exclusively on the upcoming Assassin’s Creed titles in development or planned at Ubisoft. Among them, we mentioned that the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake had recently been greenlit. Now, thanks to a recent discovery on LinkedIn, it appears that the development of the Black Flag Remake began just two months later, in September 2023.
Ubisoft Singapore Started Working on Black Flag Remake
In a report published a month before our list was written up, news emerged that Ubisoft Singapore would be responsible for the recreation of one of the most popular Assassin’s Creed games ever – Black Flag. Now, details have been uncovered on the LinkedIn Profile of a Lead Artist at that very studio, who has been working on an ‘unannounced project’ since September 2023. This unannounced project is reportedly in progress alongside the likes of Mirage and Valhalla’s Siege of Paris DLC.
The Anticipated Return of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag
An Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake has the potential to bring millions of players back to the franchise. For some fans, the series lost its way after Ubisoft abandoned the traditional operating model and opted for enormous, RPG-based titles. However, 2023’s Assassin’s Creed: Mirage was seen as a turning point, offering a smaller, short-form adventure that felt more like a classic AC game.
Black Flag, which initially attracted tens of millions of players and remains popular within the dedicated fanbase, could be making its return in just a few years. Twitter user JorRaptor shared a screenshot of a LinkedIn profile that hints at this possibility:
